Our church

About Noonday

A Global Methodist congregation in East Texas, with roots going back to a small rock church on Hwy 155. Built by hands that loved this place and dedicated in 1988.

Our guiding verse

“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.”

— Psalm 37:3-6

A long history in the Noonday community

Our church has a long history in the Noonday community. We began in a small rock church behind the Blue Store on Hwy 155. Not many know that our current church building was built by church members and many friends who volunteered their time.

Noonday Methodist Church created the Noonday Onion Festival to reach the community and to help raise funds to buy land and build our existing church. Noonday Methodist Church was dedicated in 1988. Take time to read the plaque on the front of the building.

We are thankful for the many new and past worshipers that join us each Sunday. We love you because God has first loved us.

The original Noonday rock church

Built by hands that loved this place

The first Noonday gathering was in a small rock church behind the Blue Store on Hwy 155. From those beginnings, the congregation grew — and when it was time for a new building, the people of Noonday picked up hammers and showed up.

The Noonday Onion Festival was the way the church raised the funds to buy the land and put up the current building. Members and friends from across the community pitched in. The building was dedicated in 1988.

What we believe

We are part of the Wesleyan-Methodist tradition. The shape of our faith is shaped by:

  • Scripture — the Old and New Testaments as the authoritative witness to God’s self-revelation in Jesus Christ.
  • The historic creeds — the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed.
  • The Wesleyan emphasis on grace — that God’s grace goes before us, justifies us through faith, and works in us to make us more like Christ.
  • The means of grace — prayer, worship, scripture, communion, and Christian fellowship.

A Global Methodist congregation

In 2024 our congregation joined the Global Methodist Church — a worldwide body committed to a renewed focus on biblical truth, the lordship of Jesus Christ, and the mission of making disciples. The transition was a thoughtful step, made prayerfully and with the full participation of our congregation.

We remain firmly in the Methodist family. The hymns, the prayers, the sacraments, the Methodist heritage — all of it remains. The difference is one of emphasis and accountability, not of identity.
